What is Lexion?
Lexion
is
a computer based system
for developing reading,
writing and spelling in
those with dyslexia,
aphasia, or language
related learning
disorders. It
has 94 structured
modules, 1100 age
related word lists,
more than 2000
photographic pictures,
4000 digital
recordings etc.
It is suitable for use by
Specialist literacy
teachers, SPELD, ORRS,
RTLB, TOD, etc.
Lexion was
originally developed
in Sweden and this
version is from the
UK.
(Please note this is
not the same programme as Lexia
from the USA).
Lexion
provides a complete
process by testing
the student,
automatically
creating the
findings in figures,
charts and text, and
then generating the
appropriate
exercises. It covers the most fundamental processes in reading and writing acquisition, e.g. phonological awareness, letter-sound correspondence, syllable and morpheme segmentation and blending, etc.
Grammar, spatial skills, arithmetic,
time and other aspects are also covered.
Each
licence contains
a full
version of Lexion and
two Mini Lexion!
There are two
versions of Lexion,
one complete version
for the teacher or
speech therapist,
etc., and a
minimized version,
Mini-Lexion, that
the user
(pupil/patient)
installs, for
example, at home.
Mini-Lexion
as a standalone
program at a pupils
home, capable only
of installing
exercises and then
letting the user
practice
–
2 copies are
included with the
licence. The ability
to send the
exercises to a user
for training
somewhere else than
at the
teacher’s/speech
therapist’s, is a
unique feature of
Lexion.
Mini-Lexion
The
teacher
may send a user’s
archive with its
exercises, exercise
properties, and lists.
The exercises may be
sent home and
installed in
Mini-Lexion for
practise. Exercises
may be sent by e‑mail,
diskette, USB memory,
or a self-made CD.
Mini-Lexion is a
standalone program
capable only of
installing exercises
and then letting the
user practise.
A Mini-Lexion may
contain more than one
user, for example
several siblings
practising at home on
the same computer. You
install Mini-Lexion
once, thereafter you
install on the
computer as many users
as you wish by using
different sets of
exercises (or e-mail
attachment files). The
users must have
different names.
When you want to
monitor the progress
at home, ask the user
to open the Results
window where all the
results charts are to
be found. There you
click on the
diskette/e-mail
button
and
all the
results,
including the
logbook,
will be
transferred to you.

Lexion Assessments
1.The assessments are a tool for deciding if a certain child will have difficulties in reading and writing during the first years in school.
2.The assessments may be used as a screening tool at any age when a new stage in reading and writing education is to begin, or when you think that a certain level of ability should be present for an individual.
The standardised testing situation ensures the same instructions are given by the same ‘administrator’ each time. The results are then compiled and appropriate measures are proposed.
The Lex
Testor takes care of the testing procedure, so you as an observer may make notes about the qualitative aspects of the individual’s performance.
The test results are displayed in figures and charts. The findings are also summarized in ordinary text format.
The assessment contains several parts. Each age from Year 6 and up has its own test parts. There are 5-10 test areas depending upon age group.
The assessment range has
now been extended and now includes a Secondary
section for up to 16
years.
The test results are
compared to norms
collected from students of the same age. Experience so far proves that
students enjoy being tested with Lexion
Assessment. The special
approach awakens
curiosity and they concentrate surprisingly well for long periods.
Lexion automatically creates appropriate exercises according to the test results. Later the individual may be reassessed with the same or other tests.
