Wordshark 4 offers 55 different games which use sound graphics and text to teach
and reinforce word recognition and spelling. A simple way is provided to create and record
sounds for your own word lists
New Version 4 features include:
- Letters and Sounds course: a new week-by-week course.
- 55 games, covering word recognition, spelling, sound and letter patterns, syllables,
sentences, alphabet and dictionary activities using the specified word list.
- Easy-to-change background colours for the games
- Scores and timings displayed on screen at all times but with no final time limits
The games provide very high motivation and interest. Games have variable speeds and other
options meet all grades of skill for those with SLD and are for at use in primary and secondary
school and at home.
Words range from initial letter sounds, through the simplest 2 or 3-letter words to complex
polysyllabic words. A fast search engine easily locates any word, topic or word list.
Sentences give the words in context with a worksheet for every list which can be easily printed.
Easy-to-follow A4 manual includes all word lists and advice on use.
Word lists are arranged in six alternative structured courses covering:
- The English “Literacy Hour” UK spellings and word recognition
(American spellings are included as an option)
- Secondary school subject vocabulary / Adult learners
- The 3 stages of the book “Alpha to Omega”
- Phonics Courses, PLUS the new “Letters and Sounds” phonics (including assessment course
for older users and adults
The program includes phonics, onset and rime, homophones, spelling rules, common letter
patterns, visual and auditory patterns, prefixes, suffixes, roots, word division, high
frequency words, use of words in context, alphabet and dictionary skills and more.
A simple way is provided to create and record sounds for your own word lists.
The worksheets for any of the “word lists” can be printed:
- The list itself,
- A wordsearch containing the list words,
- A crossword puzzle and clues for all the words in the list,
- Plus the record of games played by students, including errors, can be printed.
